Weather information is issued from time to time to supplement the contents of weather warnings and weather advisories issued when weather conditions that may cause disasters, such as typhoons and heavy rain, are expected or have occurred. There are general weather information issued by the Japan Meteorological Agency for the whole of Japan, local weather information issued by regional meteorological observatories and the Okinawa Meteorological Observatory, and prefectural weather information issued by meteorological observatories. Weather information is sometimes used to refer to weather warnings and weather advisories. Phenomena for which weather information is issued include heavy rain, heavy snow, strong winds, blizzards, high waves, low pressure, lightning, hail (→ hail), light rain, prolonged rain, tides, strong winter pressure patterns, and yellow sand. Heavy rain and strong winds, strong winds and high waves, and lightning and hail are sometimes combined and announced. When a typhoon occurs, "Typhoon Information" is issued, when heavy rain of about 100 mm per hour is likely to cause disasters, record short-term heavy rain information is issued, and when there is a risk of landslides, landslide warning information is issued, and evacuation and caution are called for. In addition, ultraviolet light information, high temperature warning information, and pollen information are also issued.

台風や大雨など災害のおそれのある気象状態が予想されるか，起こっている場合に発表される気象警報や気象注意報などの内容を補完するため，随時発表される情報。日本全国を対象として気象庁から発表される全般気象情報，管区気象台や沖縄気象台などから発表される地方気象情報，気象台から発表される府県気象情報がある。気象警報，気象注意報などを含めて気象情報ということもある。気象情報が発表される現象には，大雨，大雪，暴風，暴風雪，高波，低気圧，雷，降ひょう（→ひょう），少雨，長雨，潮位，強い冬型の気圧配置，黄砂などがあり，大雨と暴風や暴風と高波，雷と降ひょう，のように組み合わせて発表されることもある。台風発生時には「台風に関する情報」，1時間に 100mmほどの大雨で災害が起こるおそれがあるときには記録的短時間大雨情報，土砂災害のおそれがあるときには土砂災害警戒情報を発表し，避難や警戒を呼びかける。そのほか，紫外線情報や高温注意情報，花粉情報なども発表される。
