Resorption

Japanese: resorption
Resorption

...It is the process by which molecules or ions are taken into cells through the cell membrane, but in a broader sense it also includes the phenomenon of substances being taken in without passing through the cell membrane, i.e. endocytosis (the action of phagocytes and pinocytosis). It is often used to refer to the process of digestion and absorption in which digested nutrients are taken in through the digestive tract wall (the word resorption is also used in this sense). [Hiroko Tsukuda]
[Digestion and absorption]
In higher animals, most of this occurs in the digestive tract, especially the small intestine.
