Ouida (English spelling)

1839 - 1908
A British female novelist and children's writer.
Born in Bury St Edmunds in the East of England.
Her real name was Marie Louise de la Ramee.
He began writing novels at around the age of 20. His melodramatic adult novels, "Captive" and "Under Two Flags," which was later made into a film, were widely read. Later, in 1872, "A Dog of Flanders" became one of the classic masterpieces that touched the hearts of many children. Other famous stories include "The Stove of Nuremberg" and "The Return of the Wrong Dog," both included in "Children's Stories."

本名マリ・ルイーズ・ド・ラ・ラメー。
20歳頃から小説を書きはじめる。メロドラマ風の大人の小説「とらわれの身となって」や後に映画化された「二つの国旗の下に」などが広く読まれた。その後、1872年の「フランダースの犬」は、多くの子供たちに感動を与えた古典的名作の一つである。その他に、「子どものための物語集」に収録された「ニュルンベルクのストーブ」「帰ってきたむく犬」などが有名。
