Closed fishing season

Japanese: 禁漁期 - きんりょうき
Closed fishing season
A period during which the capture and collection of aquatic plants and animals is prohibited for the purpose of resource conservation. Also called "kingyoki." Usually, fishing is prohibited in a certain area for a certain period during the breeding season or when the fish are young. In addition, annual catch volume and size of the catch may be restricted. This is set internationally, but domestically, the deadline is set for each prefecture, and the targets are about 30 kinds of fish such as salmon, trout, sweetfish, and smelt, about 30 kinds of shellfish such as abalone, turban shell, clam, and hamaguri, about 10 kinds of algae such as tengusa, wakame, and hijiki, and about 10 other kinds such as spiny lobster, octopus, and sea urchin. The day after the end of the fishing ban, the fishing ban is lifted. For example, the lifting date for sweetfish varies by region, centering on June 1st. →Cultivation fisheries/Fishery resources→Related topics Resource management type fisheries|Fishing|Inland water fisheries
