...It is noteworthy that the existing works were created in the late Goryeo period, and there are no works that cover the entire Goryeo period, and the oldest surviving work with a date inscription is a colored silk statue of Amitabha Buddha (Bank of Japan) from 1286, which means that only works from the period when Goryeo was under the control of the Yuan Dynasty remain. Originally, Goryeo Buddhist paintings were influenced by Chinese Buddhist paintings, and it is known that in 923, when the envoy Yun Ji returned from Yang, he presented 500 paintings of arhat statues to be placed at Songsan Temple in Haeju ("History of Goryeo", volume 1), that in 1074, Kim Ryong-gan, an envoy of Emperor Munjong, visited Song and eagerly purchased paintings, and that in 1076, Choe Sa-hoon, accompanied by several painters, copied the murals of the Song's Xiangguk Temple and returned to Korea ("Records of Paintings", volume 6). Judging from existing examples, Goryeo Buddhist paintings are characterized by their iconographic narrowness (narrowness of subject matter), similarity, and beautiful pattern expression.

…そこで注目されることは，現存作品の制作時期が高麗時代末期に集中していて，高麗時代全体に及ぶものがみられず，現存作品で最古の紀年銘作品は至元23年(1286)の絹本著色阿弥陀如来像(日本銀行)で，高麗が元の支配下にあった時期の作品のみ残ったことになる。元来，高麗仏画は，中国仏画の影響をうけており，923年に使尹質が梁より帰って五百羅漢画像を献じて海州嵩山寺に置いたこと(《高麗史》巻一)，1074年に文宗の使臣金良鑒が宋を訪れ図画を鋭意購求したことや，76年に崔思訓が画工数人を帯同し宋の相国寺の壁画を模写して帰国したこと(《図画見聞誌》巻六)などが知られる。現存作例でみるかぎり，高麗仏画は，図像上の狭窄（きようさく）性(主題の狭さ)と類似性，美しい文様表現に特色がある。…
