A march used at weddings. The famous wedding march is from Mendelssohn's incidental music to Shakespeare's play A Midsummer Night's Dream (Op. 61, premiered in Potsdam, 1843). Written as an interlude to the fifth act in which two couples get married, it consists of a gorgeous main section led by a trumpet fanfare and an elegant trio section, and is widely used at modern weddings. Wagner's opera Lohengrin (premiered in Weimar, 1850) also has a wedding march in Act 3, Scene 1 (chorus: "With all my heart I lead the way"), but this music has a nature that foreshadows the tragic ending of the drama.

結婚式で用いられるマーチ。メンデルスゾーンが作曲したシェークスピア劇への付随音楽『真夏の夜の夢』（作品61。1843年ポツダム初演）の結婚行進曲が有名である。2組の恋人たちが結婚式をあげる第5幕への間奏曲として書かれたもので、トランペットのファンファーレに導かれる華麗な主部と優美なトリオ部からなり、現代の結婚式で広く用いられている。なお、ワーグナーの歌劇『ローエングリン』（1850年ワイマール初演）第3幕第1場にも結婚行進曲（合唱「真心こめて先導します」）があるが、これはむしろドラマの悲劇的結末を予感させる性質をもった音楽である。
