Born on May 18, 1902. Influenced by Iha Fuyu, who was also from Okinawa. Participated in the Nanto Danwakai (Southern Island Discussion Group) with Kunio Yanagita and others, and achieved results in Okinawan studies, especially in research on the Ryukyuan dialect. Died on March 10, 1955, at the age of 52. Graduated from Tokyo School of Foreign Languages (now Tokyo University of Foreign Studies).
