The third example is a story from volume twenty-ninth of the "Konjaku Monogatarishu," in which a robber breaks into the house of the poor scholar Kiyohara Yoshizumi. Yoshizumi initially hides under the wooden floor, but is so annoyed that he follows the thief out the gate, saying, "We all see each other's faces. At dawn, he called out to the head of the Kebiishi police force, "Let's catch them one by one," but the thieves turned back and were killed. At the end of the story, he criticized, "Although he had excellent Chinese studies skills, he had no dew or Japanese spirit, and he died for saying such an immature thing."
