Oborashikidoki Pottery

...A shell mound from the final Jomon period located in the saddle of a low plateau facing Ofunato Bay, O-hora, Akasaki-cho, O-funato City, Iwate Prefecture. Shell layers are distributed in one place on the southern slope and two places on the northern slope. Many researchers have investigated the site since ancient times, but the most famous excavation was in 1926 by Hasebe Genjin and Yamauchi Kiyoo of the Tohoku University School of Medicine. The main purpose of this excavation was to collect Stone Age human bones, and a total of 16 bodies were discovered, including flexed burial bones and infant bones in jars. Yamauchi also noticed that the characteristics of the pottery differed depending on the excavation site, and using these pottery as type references, he subdivided the pottery from the final Jomon period in the Tohoku region into six types, and chronologically organized them in the order of O-hora B, BC, C1 , C2 , A, and A' types. ...
