A small hybrid vehicle manufactured and sold by Toyota Motor Corporation. It was released in 2011. It is a model derived from the company's HV "Prius" and is sold under the name "Aqua" in Japan and "Prius C" overseas. It is a 5-door hatchback with the smallest body dimensions among the company's HVs. It is equipped with the same THS-II HV system with reduction mechanism as the third-generation Prius, and an improved engine of the 1.5-liter 1NZ-FXE type that has proven itself in the Prius, and is 42 kilograms lighter overall than the Prius. This has achieved the world's best fuel efficiency of 35.4 kilometers per liter of gasoline. In September 2013, it lost its top spot to Honda's new HV "Fit", but a partially improved model announced in November of the same year improved its fuel efficiency to 37 kilometers per liter of gasoline, regaining its position as the world's best.
