Matsudo [city] - Matsudo

Japanese: 松戸[市] - まつど
Matsudo [city] - Matsudo
A city in northwestern Chiba Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1943. It straddles the alluvial plain on the left bank of the Edogawa River and the Shimousa Plateau. It borders Katsushika Ward in Tokyo and Misato City in Saitama Prefecture across the Edogawa River. The city center has flourished since early modern times as a post town on the Mito Kaido (Rikuzenhama Kaido) road, a market town, and a riverside area for Edogawa shipping. Since the Meiji era, it has developed as a residential satellite city of Tokyo, and houses and factories have increased in the rural areas that were once rich in vegetables. Especially since around 1960, the development of housing complexes and industrial complexes has progressed, and industries such as metals, food, and machinery have flourished. The city is served by the Joban Line, Shin-Keisei Electric Railway, Ryutetsu, Tobu Railway, Musashino Line, and Hokuso Railway. It is home to the Chiba University Horticulture Department and Yabashira Cemetery. The city suffered damage during the Great East Japan Earthquake. 61.38 km 2 . 484,457 people (2010).
