Kansas is a city on the Kansas River in northeastern Kansas, USA, and the state capital. It has a population of 122,377 (2000). It is located in the center of a rich agricultural region and is important as a distribution center, market, and processing center for various agricultural products. Within the city limits, there are many flour mills, factories manufacturing rubber products such as tires, pharmaceuticals, leather products, and meat products, and a large railroad repair shop stands out. It was established in 1854 by anti-slavery activists from New England. Today, it boasts a beautiful, orderly streetscape with lots of greenery.
