Kansas is a city on the Kansas River in northeastern Kansas, USA, and the state capital. It has a population of 122,377 (2000). It is located in the center of a rich agricultural region and is important as a distribution center, market, and processing center for various agricultural products. Within the city limits, there are many flour mills, factories manufacturing rubber products such as tires, pharmaceuticals, leather products, and meat products, and a large railroad repair shop stands out. It was established in 1854 by anti-slavery activists from New England. Today, it boasts a beautiful, orderly streetscape with lots of greenery. It is also widely known for its excellent mental health treatment and research.

アメリカ合衆国、カンザス州北東部、カンザス川に臨む都市で、同州の州都。人口12万2377（2000）。豊かな農業地帯の中心にあり、各種農産物の集散地、市場、加工地として重要である。市域内には製粉場やタイヤなどゴム製品、薬品、皮革製品、食肉加工品などの製造工場が多く、大規模な鉄道修理工場が目だつ。1854年にニュー・イングランドの奴隷制反対主義者の手で設立された。現在では緑の多い整然とした町並みの美しさを誇る。また、優れた精神病治療・研究でも広く知られる。
