It was not until 1960 that an international organization for collecting, classifying, and organizing sports information was established, when the International Association for Sports Information (IASI) was established within the International Council for Science and Physical Education, a subsidiary organization of UNESCO. The first International Sports Information Association conference was held in Cologne, Germany in 1961, and since then, international conferences on sports information have been held in various major cities in Europe, in an effort to raise awareness of the subject.
