漢方薬に用いる生薬(しょうやく)の一つ。バラ科アンズの種子を乾燥させたもの。鎮咳(ちんがい)、去痰(きょたん)の作用があり、気管支炎、喘息(ぜんそく)などに用いる。感冒、肺炎、気管支喘息に効く麻黄湯(まおうとう)、気管支炎、小児喘息に効く麻杏甘石湯(まきょうかんせきとう)、気管支炎、気管支喘息に効く苓甘姜味辛夏仁湯(りょうかんきょうみしんげにんとう)などに含まれる。また、あんず酒は疲労回復に効く。
