An English scholastic scholar active in the first half of the 12th century. Dates of birth and death unknown. Born in Bath. A typical scholar of the 12th century, known in cultural history as the "century of translation," he played a pioneering role in translating and introducing new scientific knowledge that had blossomed in the Arabic cultural sphere to the Latin world.
