Capital gains

It refers to profits from the rise in value of assets such as land and securities. The opposite of capital losses. This increase in value can mean a simple increase in the valuation, or it can mean realization through the sale and transfer of the assets. Speculation is an active economic action aimed at capital gains, especially repeated buying and selling in a very short period of time, and is typically seen in the buying and selling of stocks. Speculation is an action to obtain capital gains by buying an asset at a relatively low price in the hope that the asset will rise in value, and selling it at the time when it becomes relatively expensive, so it is also argued that it contributes to the stabilization of the price of assets (commodities). This is called the Friedman proposition, but many restrictive conditions are necessary for this proposition to hold. This is clear when we see that in reality, speculation often causes price fluctuations rather than stabilization in the commodity market and foreign exchange market.

土地や有価証券など保有資産の値上りによる利益をいう。キャピタル・ロスcapital lossesに対する語。この価値の増加は単なる評価額の上昇を意味することもあれば、それの売却譲渡による実現を意味することもある。キャピタル・ゲインをねらった積極的経済行動、とくにごく短期間で繰り返される売買行動が投機であって、その典型は株の売買などにみいだされる。投機は、ある資産の値上りを期待して、それを相対的に低廉な時期に購入し、相対的に高くなった時点で売却することによってキャピタル・ゲインを手にしようとする行為であるから、資産（商品）の価格の安定化に寄与するという主張も生まれる。これをフリードマン命題というが、この命題が成立するためには多くの限定条件が必要である。それは、現実に投機行為があるために、商品市場や外国為替(かわせ)市場においてしばしば価格の安定化よりもその乱高下が引き起こされているのをみれば明らかである。
