Italian poet. He began writing poetry while studying at the University of Bologna, but stopped studying due to mental illness. He then wandered around South America and Europe. During this time he worked in a variety of jobs, including as a musician, circus performer, and firefighter. After returning to Italy, he continued to move around the country, writing poems that made full use of the musicality of words, and in 1914 he compiled and self-published "The Songs of Orpheus," which he himself sold in bars and other places. Many of his poems are imbued with a strong sense of fantasy and symbolism, underpinned by his keen and anxious sensibility. After his death, "Letters" (1958) and "Notebooks from Faenza" (1960) were published. [Kouhei Kawana] Source: Shogakukan Encyclopedia Nipponica About Encyclopedia Nipponica Information | Legend |
