Manila Bay - Manilawan (English spelling) Manila Bay

Japanese: マニラ湾 - マニラわん(英語表記)Manila Bay
Manila Bay - Manilawan (English spelling) Manila Bay
An inlet from the South China Sea in the central west of Luzon, Philippines. It is surrounded by the Bataan Peninsula to the west and the Batangas Peninsula to the southeast. The mouth of the bay is narrow at only 18 km, while the width is 58 km at its widest point, with Corregidor Island in the center. The water is generally shallow, with a depth of 10 to 40 m. Since Spain built a fort on the east coast in 1571 at the site of present-day Manila, it has been a battleground for control of Manila, and fierce battles were fought there during the Spanish-American War and World War II. There are North and South Harbors in Manila, and a Philippine Navy base at Cape Sangley in Cavite on the southeast coast.
