A region in southern Italy facing the Tyrrhenian Sea. It stretches from the Gulf of Gaeta to the Gulf of Policastro, with the Apennine Mountains running inland and Mount Vesuvius towering over it. It includes the Campania Plain, known since ancient times as a fertile land, producing wheat, corn, olives, grapes, and other crops, and fishing is also thriving. It is the region with the most developed industry in southern Italy, with its capital, Naples.
