Urquiza, Justo José de

Born: October 18, 1801, Entre Rios [Died] April 11, 1870, San José. Argentine soldier and politician. President (in office 1854-60). Farmer. He served as governor of Entre Rios under dictator J. Rosas, but defeated Rosas in 1852 and seized power. In 1853 he promulgated the modern Constitution and in 1854 he became president of the Argentine Confederation. He laid the foundation for the modernization of the country. He was assassinated by his political opponents in 1870.
