Lift coefficient

When an object, such as an aircraft wing, moves through air or water, or is placed in a flow, a difference in pressure often occurs between the top and bottom surfaces, generating upward or downward lift perpendicular to the flow. The value that represents the difference in this lift due to the object's shape and the angle at which it is placed (angle of attack) is called the lift coefficient (symbol C _L ; dimensionless), and lift L can be calculated as follows: Here, L is lift (kgf), ρ is the density of the fluid (kgf･s ² /m ⁴ ), V is the flow velocity (m/s), and S is the plane area of the object (m2).
