…He was born in Halicarnassus in Asia Minor and lived in Rome from about 30 B.C., where he taught rhetoric and studied Roman history. His treatises on rhetoric and literary criticism include On the Order of Words, On Imitation, and On Thucydides. He advocated a return to the Attic classical period of the 5th and 4th centuries B.C., and became a pioneer of Atticism. As a historian, he wrote the 20-volume History of Rome, covering the period from the founding of Rome to the beginning of the First Punic War. …
