Kikuban (English name)

Japanese: 菊判 - きくばん（英語表記）kikuban

(1) One of the dimensions of the base paper, measuring 636 x 939 mm. From when it was imported from overseas at the beginning of the Meiji era, it was the standard size of paper in Japan along with the shirokuban until the standard dimensions of the A-size and B-size were established at the beginning of the Showa era. There are various theories about the origin of the name, but one theory is that the trademark attached to this paper when it was first imported resembled a chrysanthemum flower. (2) A size not specified by the Japanese Industrial Standards (JIS). The size of the above paper (full kikuban paper) cut into 16 pieces, approximately 152 x 218 mm. Relatedly, the size of the kikuban folded along its long side (approximately 109 x 151 mm) is called the "kikuhansetsuban" (half-cut kiku size), and the size twice the size of the kikuban (approximately 218 x 303 mm) is called the "kikubaiban" (double kiku size). （1）紙の原紙寸法の一つで，636×939mmの大きさのもの．明治の初めに海外から輸入されてから，昭和の初期にA列判，B列判という規格寸法が制定されるまで，四六判とともに日本の用紙寸法の基準となっていた．名称の由来は諸説あるが，一説にはこの用紙が初めて輸入されたときに付けられていた商標が菊の花に似ていたためといわれている．（2）日本工業規格（JIS）外の判型．前記の用紙（菊判全紙）を16に裁断した大きさで，約152×218mm．関連して，菊判の長辺を二つ折りした大きさのもの（約109×151mm）を「菊半截判（きくはんせつばん）」といい，菊判の倍の大きさのもの（約218×303mm）を「菊倍判」という．[参照項目] 四六判（しろくばん） | 判型
