Menelik [II] - Menelik
Emperor of Ethiopia (reigned 1889-1913). Became King of Shoa in 1865, and ascended to the throne in 1889. In 1896, he defeated the Italian invading forces at the Battle of Adwa, securing his sovereignty. After that, he established borders with Britain, France, and Italy, and maintained his territory. In 1897, he annexed the Ogaden region of Somalia (Ogaden War).
