Kassel

Japanese: カッセル(英語表記)Kassel
Kassel
A city in the state of Hesse in central Germany. It is the administrative center of the northern part of the state, and is located in a scenic spot overlooking the Fulda River. It obtained city rights in 1180, became the Landgrave of Hesse around 1277, and was the capital of Hesse-Kassel from 1567 to 1866. In the 17th century, the new town district of Oberneustadt was built by French Huguenot immigrants. From 1866 until 1944, it was the central city of Prowinz-Hessen-Nassau in Prussia. During World War II, it was one of the centers of German aircraft and tank production, and the city was almost completely destroyed by air raids. After the war, various industries such as locomotives, railway cars, automobiles, optical machinery, precision equipment, and textiles were established. The rebuilt city has many museums, art galleries, and art galleries, including the Natural History Museum, which uses a building said to be the oldest theater in Germany, the State Museum, and the Tapestry Museum, as well as many educational institutions, making it a cultural and educational center. Wilhelmshöhe Park, located in the western hills, is a vast forest park with a palace with a Hercules statue at the top and a multi-tiered cascade, and was registered as a World Heritage Site in 2013. Population: 194,774 (2010).
