...microfossils found in abundance in the Gunflint chert distributed on the shores of Lake Superior in Ontario, Canada, are thought to be fossils that are about 1.9 billion years old. In 1954, ES Berghorn and SA Tyler reported these microfossils from Schreiber on the north shore of Lake Superior, which led to the discovery of fossils in Precambrian strata around the world, significantly increasing our knowledge of the biota of this period.
