Born on October 17, 1895 (according to one theory, the 30th). Moved to Tokyo in 1914 and became a popular geisha in Shinbashi. Debuted on stage in 1914 as a new-school actress named Kawakami Yoshiko. Joined Shochiku Kamata in 1913 and played the lead role in "Island Woman," becoming the first star actress. She shared the popularity with Kurishima Sumiko and Satsuki Nobuko. Died on March 23, 1970.
