A city located in the central part of the Kojima Peninsula in the southern part of Okayama Prefecture. It was incorporated as a city in 1940. The Uno Line ran through the city, and the Uno-Takamatsu Ferry Route ran from Uno to Takamatsu City in Shikoku, but this was discontinued in 1988 when the Great Seto Bridge was completed. Currently, a ferry runs through the city. The Mitsui Shipyards were established in the Tama area in 1919, and the area developed rapidly, with shipbuilding-related industries concentrated there. In recent years, however, the population has declined significantly due to the shipbuilding recession, and development is underway to make use of the city's abundant tourism resources and become a maritime tourist city. A copper smelter is located in Hibi. Shibukawa is part of the Setonaikai National Park, and has a swimming beach and a maritime museum. Area: 103.58 km2 .
