In the Middle Ages, this area was collectively known as Kasukabe-Higashijo, and included Ajiki Manor, which was owned by Daigoji Temple, Kashiwai Manor, which was owned by Hachijoin, and Shinoki Manor, which was owned by Chokodo. In the early modern period, villages such as Katsukawa, Toriimatsu, and Utsutsu along the Shimo-kaido (Zenkoji-kaido) prospered as post towns, and new rice fields were developed in the plains with the introduction of the Iruka irrigation canal (1633) and the Shinkotsu irrigation canal (1664). *Some of the terminology that refers to "Kasukabe Tojo" is listed below.
