A district of Yoshinogawa City on the south bank of the downstream Yoshino River in northern Tokushima Prefecture. Former town name. In 1955, Yamase Town and Miyama Village were combined to form Yamakawa Town, and in 2004, it merged with Kamojima Town, Kawajima Town, and Misato Village to form Yoshinogawa City. During the Nanboku-cho period, the Hosokawa clan established Shimodate here and built shrines and temples, and the settlement was formed. In the mid-Edo period, a market called Takatsu City was established for the festival of Takatsu Gongen. Kawata's washi paper, which has a tradition dating back to the feudal period, is made from mitsumata and kozo trees in the Shikoku Mountains, and is still shipped to Kyoto and other places today. The Kawata Community Center has a collection of all the tools used to make Kawata handmade washi paper. 徳島県北部,吉野川下流南岸にある吉野川市の地区。旧町名。 1955年山瀬 (やませ) 町と三山 (みやま) 村が合体して山川町となり,2004年鴨島町,川島町,美郷村と合併して吉野川市となる。南北朝時代に細川氏がここに下館を設け,神社仏閣を創建してから,集落が形成された。江戸中期には,高越 (こうつ) 権現の祭礼に高越市と呼ばれる市が立っている。藩政期からの伝統をもつ川田の和紙は,四国山地のミツマタ,コウゾを原料としたもので,現在も京都などへ出荷されている。川田公民館には川田手漉和紙製造用具一式を収蔵。
