Born July 10, 1920. The fourth son of Iida Dakotsu. Edited the magazine "Unmo" in his hometown of Sakaigawa Village, Yamanashi Prefecture (now Fuefuki City), and became its editor in 1962. Depicting nature with a modern sensibility and rich in lyricism, he received the Yomiuri Literature Prize in 1969 for "Bōon." In 1980 he received the Imperial Art Academy Award, and in 1984 he became a member of the Japan Art Academy. In 1992, he ceased publication of "Unmo" with its 900th issue. He passed away on February 25, 2007, at the age of 86. He graduated from Kokugakuin University. His haiku collections include "Hundred Houses of Tani" and his works include "Myriad Eyes."
