Genkitsu - Quiet Room
1548-1612 Ada-Toyotomi - A monk from the early Edo period.
Born in 1554. A Rinzai sect disciple of the Daikaku school's Kintei Kiku and inherited his teachings. In 1587, he became the headmaster of the Ashikaga School in Shimotsuke (Tochigi Prefecture) and devoted himself to reviving the school. He later became the chief priest of Nanzenji Temple in Kyoto, and was invited by the founder of Fushimi Enkoji Temple, which was built by Tokugawa Ieyasu, to publish woodblock print books known as the Fushimi edition, including "Kōshi Kago." He passed away on May 20, 1604. He was 65 years old. He was from Ogi County, Hizen (Saga Prefecture). His pen name was San'yō.

天文17年生まれ。臨済(りんざい)宗。大覚派の金庭菊に師事してその法をつぐ。天正(てんしょう)15年(1587)下野(しもつけ)(栃木県)足利学校の庠主(しょうしゅ)(校長)となり,同校の復興につくした。のち京都南禅寺住持をへて徳川家康が建立した伏見円光寺の開山にまねかれ,「孔子家語」など,伏見版とよばれる木活字本を刊行した。慶長17年5月20日死去。65歳。肥前小城郡(佐賀県)出身。号は三要。
