Caribbean peoples

...the indigenous people of North and South America. In anthropology, it refers to the ethnic groups excluding the Eskimo and Aleut, but in general it may include them. In Japan, it is common to call the indigenous people of North America American Indians and the indigenous people of Central and South America Indios. The name Indios comes from the fact that Columbus, who discovered the New World, believed it to be the Indies and wrote the indigenous people as Indios in his report to the King of Spain. They are also called Amerindians or Amerinds.
