Action at a distance (biology) - Enkakusayo

This refers to the direct or indirect effect of a certain organism (microorganisms and plants) on other plants through a substance that is produced and released from the body. It is also called allelopathy. The reason why Solidago altissima grows and forms colonies, excluding other plants, is because of 2-cis-dehydromatricaria esters secreted from the roots of this plant. This is an example of remote action. The reason why ripe or damaged fruits stimulate the ripening of other fruits is said to be a remote action caused by ethylene.

ある生物（微生物と植物）が自ら生成し体外に遊離する物質によって、他の植物に直接または間接に影響を及ぼすことをいう。他感作用またはアレロパシーallelopathyともいう。セイタカアワダチソウが繁茂して群落をつくり、他の植物を排除するのは、この植物の根から分泌される2‐シス‐デヒドロマトリカリアエステルによるものであり、遠隔作用の一例である。よく熟した果実や傷ついた果実がほかの果実の熟成を促すのは、エチレンによる遠隔作用であるといえる。
