Tatsuo Takayama

Japanese painter. Born in Oita City. Studied under Matsuoka Eikyu at the Tokyo School of Fine Arts, graduating in 1936 (Showa 11). Founded Rusosha in 1937 and Issaisha in 1941. Won special prizes at the Nitten exhibition for "The Bathhouse" in 1946 and "Girl" in 1949. He continued to exhibit at the Nitten exhibition, and served as a judge, council member and director from 1953, before becoming chairman of the Nitten exhibition in 1975. He won the Japan Art Academy Prize for "Hakuei" in 1960, and the Japan Art Grand Prize in 1970. He became a member of the Japan Art Academy in 1972. In 1973, he held the Sun, Moon and Stars exhibition. He was named a Person of Cultural Merit in 1979, and was awarded the Order of Culture in 1982.

日本画家。大分市生まれ。東京美術学校で松岡映丘(えいきゅう)に学び、1936年（昭和11）に卒業。37年に瑠爽(るそう)社、41年に一采(いっさい)社を結成する。46年の『浴室』、49年の『少女』で日展特選。以後も日展に出品を続け、53年から審査員、評議員、理事を経て、75年に日展理事長となる。60年に『白翳(はくえい)』で日本芸術院賞、70年には日本芸術大賞を受賞。72年芸術院会員となる。73年、日月星辰(じつげつせいしん)展を開催。79年文化功労者となり、82年には文化勲章を受章した。
