In Japan, there have been several boycotts as consumer movements, with the boycott of color televisions from 1970 to the following year producing particularly important results. This movement began in September 1970 when the National Council of Regional Women's Organizations (Chifuren) called for people to refrain from buying color televisions for one year in protest against the fact that the "list prices" set by manufacturers were far higher than the actual selling prices, against the backdrop of the fact that color television sets, which were still in their early stages of popularity at the time, had long been a problem due to the dual pricing between domestic and export prices, and the fact that the home appliance industry had been subject to investigation by the Fair Trade Commission for alleged violations of the Antimonopoly Act.
