California Iris

…(b) Siberian iris consists of Iris sibirica L., Iris sanguinea Donn., and hybrids of these two species, and there were about 150 varieties by the early 1900s. Since then, the flower shape has been significantly improved, and in addition to blue-purple and white, varieties with pink and yellow flowers, which were not previously available, have been cultivated, and they are widely planted in gardens in the UK and the US. Other varieties include California iris, which consists of 11 species and their hybrids found in the foothills of the Pacific coast of the US, and Spuria iris, which consists of 16 species and their hybrids found in Europe, Asia Minor, and Central Asia. There are also Regelia, which is found in Central Asia, and Oncocyclus, which is found in eastern Mediterranean countries, and has bulbs with enlarged rhizomes and sparse hair-like projections on the tepals. …
