He studied mathematics at the University of Halle from 1820, and published a series of papers on acoustics, starting with Experimental Wave Dynamics (1825), co-authored with his brother Ernst Heinrich Weber, a professor at the University of Leipzig. In 1828 he was appointed an associate professor at the University of Halle, and in 1831, on the recommendation of CF Gauss, he was appointed professor of physics at the University of Göttingen.
