Weber, EH (English spelling)

…Born in Wittenberg. He studied mathematics at the University of Halle from 1820, and published a series of papers on acoustics, starting with Experimental Wave Dynamics (1825), co-authored with his brother Ernst Heinrich Weber, a professor at the University of Leipzig. In 1828 he was appointed an associate professor at the University of Halle, and in 1831, on the recommendation of CF Gauss, he was appointed professor of physics at the University of Göttingen. Later, he collaborated with Gauss on geomagnetism, and established the Geomagnetic Observatory in Göttingen, as well as the International Magnetic Federation, and published the six-volume series Observations of the Magnetic Federation. …

…ウィッテンベルクの生れ。1820年からハレ大学で数学を学び，ライプチヒ大学教授の兄エルンストErnst Heinrich Weberとの共著《実験波動学》(1825)を皮切りに音響学に関する論文を次々に発表，それらが認められ28年ハレ大学員外教授，31年にはC.F.ガウスの推薦でゲッティンゲン大学物理学教授に任命された。後に地磁気に関してガウスと共同研究を展開し，ゲッティンゲンに地磁気観測所を設立したのをはじめ国際磁気連盟を創設，《磁気連盟観測結果》全6巻を公刊した。…
