…According to the Shoku Nihongi, in 699 (Bunmu 3), the Imperial Court banished En no Kimi no Ozuno to Izu Province. Ozuno, who lived on Mount Katsuragi, was known for his supernatural powers, commanding demons to draw water and gather firewood, and binding those who did not follow his orders with sorcery. However, his disciple, Karakuni no Muraji Hirotari, was jealous of his master's abilities and falsely accused Ozuno of misleading the public with sorcery, which is why he was banished. The Katsuragi Mountain area had long been home to a group of people who worshipped Ichinotoshi no Mikoto, and it is thought that they had a delicate relationship with the Yamato Imperial Court. En no Ozuno was a sorcerer who lived on Mount Katsuragi, and judging from his name, Karakuni no Muraji Hirotari was probably a person who transmitted foreign sorcery. …

…《続日本紀》によると，699年(文武3)朝廷は役君小角を伊豆国に流した。葛城山に住む小角は，鬼神を使役して水をくませ，薪を集めさせるなどし，その命令に従わなければ呪術によって縛るという神通力の持主として知られていたが，弟子の韓国連広足（からくにのむらじひろたり）が師の能力をねたみ，小角が妖術を使って世人を惑わしていると朝廷に讒訴（ざんそ）したために，流罪が行われたという。葛城山一帯には，古くから一言主神をまつる勢力が蟠踞（ばんきよ）し，大和朝廷に対して微妙な関係にあったと考えられるが，役小角はその葛城山に住む呪術師であり，韓国連広足はその名から考えて，外来の呪術を伝える者であったと想像される。…
