A condition in which blood pools in the veins due to impaired venous return. Localized congestion occurs due to blood circulation disorders such as pressure from a tumor or a blood clot, causing the local area to turn dark blue (cyanosis), the temperature to drop, and the veins and capillaries to swell. Systemic congestion in and around the trunk veins is often caused by impaired function due to heart disease. → Related topics: Hyperemia | Heart failure | Mitral regurgitation | Choking | Pressure sores | Clubbing Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
