Cen Shen - Shin Shin

A Chinese poet from the height of the Tang dynasty. Also read as "Shinjin." A native of Jiangling (Hubei Province). A great-grandson of Cen Wenben, prime minister under Emperor Taizong, he was a Jinshi (official scholar) in 744 (Tianbao 3). As an envoy to Anxi and a secretary to the Beiting Governor of Anxi, he once again lived in the deserts of the Western Regions. His poems outside the borders of China based on his experiences vividly evoke exotic sentiments in his rich imagination, and occupy a unique place in Tang poetry. His "Song of the Huqiang" (Song of the Huqiang) is particularly famous, beginning with the lines, "Have you not heard the saddest sound of the Huqiang (big-horned Chinese horn), played by a Hu man with purple beard and green eyes?" After the An Lushan Rebellion, when he was serving as the Right Commissioner in the center, he was favored by Du Fu, who was serving as the Left Collector of Relics. The name of this collection of poems is Cen Jiazhou Collection (Shinkashushu) comes from the fact that he was the governor of Jiazhou (Sichuan Province) in his final official position. It contains 401 poems and one prose piece.

中国、唐代盛期の詩人。「しんじん」とも読む。江陵(こうりょう)（湖北省）の人。太宗のときの宰相岑文本(しんぶんぽん)の曽孫(そうそん)で、744年（天宝3）の進士。安西節度使、安西北庭都護の書記官として、再度、西域(せいいき)の砂漠生活をもち、その体験に基づく塞外詩(さいがいし)は、豊かな空想力のうちに異国情緒を生き生きとかき立て、唐詩のうちに独自の地位を占める。「君聞かずや胡笳(こか)の声の最も悲しきを、紫髯緑眼(しぜんりょくがん)の胡人吹く」という句に始まる「胡笳の歌」はことに有名である。安禄山(あんろくざん)の乱後、右補闕(うほけつ)として中央にあったころ、左拾遺(さしゅうい)の官にあった杜甫(とほ)の知遇を受ける。その詩集を『岑嘉州集(しんかしゅうしゅう)』とよぶのは、最終官が嘉州（四川(しせん)省）の刺史(しし)であったことによる。401編の詩と1編の散文を伝える。
