Reichs-Autobahn (English spelling)

…The first section of the German autobahn, the Bonn-Cologne line, was completed in 1932. The Hitler regime drew up a construction plan for 14,000 km the following year, calling it the Reichs-Autobahn, and by 1942 had completed 3,859 km of it. The line spanned the former German and Prussian territories, and its main purposes were to combat unemployment and transport the military, but the plan also took into consideration the cost-saving effects on general automobile traffic.
