Ishimochisou - Ishimochisou

Japanese: イシモチソウ - いしもちそう
Ishimochisou - Ishimochisou

A perennial plant of the Drosera family (APG classification: Drosera family). It has a spherical tuber underground, an erect stem, 10-30 cm tall, somewhat branched at the top, and glabrous. It has basal leaves, but they die after flowering. The stem leaves are alternate and crescent-shaped, 2-3 mm long, 4-6 mm wide, with long glandular hairs on the edges and surface, which capture and digest small insects. It produces 2-10 white flowers at the top of the stem in May-June. The five sepals are ovate with glandular hairs on the edges, the five petals are obovate and 6-8 mm long, and it has five stamens, one pistil, and three styles, each deeply lobed into four. It grows in acidic wetlands in the wilderness and is distributed from the Kanto region west of Honshu, Shikoku, Kyushu, and Iriomote Island to China, with the basic species being widely distributed in Malaysia, India, and Australia.
