...The church was later renovated to become the center of the Independent Armenian Church and the cathedral of the Archbishopric, and no longer retains its original form. However, in the vicinity of the town, there are examples of Armenian architecture that combine a squinch-style dome with a polygonal pyramid-shaped exterior, such as the Church of Hripsime (618) with its four-niche (inscribed tetralobe) plan and the Church of Gayane (c. 630) with its Greek cross plan (Armenian art). In Zvartnots, a little distance away, the foundation stones and capitals of a cathedral (7th century) with a tetralobe-shaped sanctuary surrounded by a circular gallery can be seen. ...
