A style of architecture and crafts practiced in colonies. In Latin America, Spain from the 15th century, and in India in the 17th and 18th centuries, Britain incorporated the local climate, materials, and techniques into the mother country's style to create a style with regional characteristics. Generally, it refers to architecture from the colonial period of America (1620-1820), and is a general term for the various styles that immigrants developed in newly established lands where there were no suitable traditions, simplifying the architectural styles of their home countries. In the early days, practical facilities such as houses, warehouses, churches, and meeting houses were built using familiar materials such as wood and brick.
