…【Hodate Michihisa】(2) A style of poetry theory, written in the form of a letter in which the author of a poetry contest presents his or her own beliefs and refutes the judge's ruling when the contest is not acceptable to him or her. It appeared in the late Heian period when poetry contests leaned toward literaryism and developed into literary criticism, and the oldest surviving work is the one written in Chikuzen in response to Tsunenobu's ruling in the "Kayanoin Poetry Contest" (1094). Kensho's "Kensho Chinjo" in response to Shunzei's ruling in the "Rokuhyakuban Poetry Contest" from the Kamakura period is the most famous since ancient times, and others include "Rensho Chinjo" and others. …
