1761-1840 (11th year of the Horeki era - 11th year of the Tenpo era) A lecturer from the late Edo period. The founder of the Ito school. Commonly known as Sen'emon, his pen name was Kotobuki. He was also known as "Yushima no Enshin" because he lived within the grounds of Yushima Tenjin Shrine. He would read military chronicles and records such as "Kawanakajima Gunki", "Genpei Seisuiki", "Sangokushi" and "Soga Monogatari", which were his specialities, at his home. His dignified personality and style won him the support of many customers, and in 1806 (Bunka 3), when Shogun Tokugawa Ienari visited the Sumida River, he applied for and received official permission to hold a lecture at the dining hall of Kofukuji Temple and to set up a stage at a comedy hall.
