One of the five main roads. Also known as the Nikko Kaido. It is 37 ri and a half (about 148 km) long, from Edo Nihonbashi to Nikko via Utsunomiya. It has 21 stops (23 if Tokujiro is counted as 3 stops). The route up to Utsunomiya overlaps with the Oshu Dochu. It was considered important as a route for the shogun and various feudal lords to make pilgrimages to Nikko. Other routes used for pilgrimages included the Nikko Onari Road, which runs from Oji to Kawaguchi to Iwatsuki and joins this main road at Satte, and the Mibu Road, which runs from Oyama to Mibu and joins at Imaichi. → Related topics Kurihashi [town] | Kurihashi Seki | Village guidebook | Senju-shuku | Nikko Reihei-kaido | Fusakawa-do | Mito-Sakura road | Mibu street Source : Heibonsha Encyclopedia About MyPedia Information |
