Swan virgin - Hakucho Shojo

Japanese: 白鳥処女 - はくちょうしょじょ

A legend with a plot in which a girl from heaven descends to earth as a swan (or crane or dove), and while bathing, a human man hides her clothes and she becomes his wife, but then retrieves them and leaves. This motif is found in old tales and folk tales distributed all over the world, and can also be found in India, Northern Europe, China, etc., and in Japan it is known as the Hagoromo Legend (the wife of a heavenly man).

天界の少女が白鳥（あるいは鶴，鳩）になって地上に降り，水浴中に人間の男に衣を隠されて男の妻となるが，衣を取り戻して去るといったプロットをもつ伝承。世界中に分布する昔話・民話のモティーフで，インド，北欧，中国などにも見られ，日本では羽衣伝説（天人女房）として伝わる。
