A bay in County Donegal in the northwest of Ireland. The name means "Foreigner's (Gaul's) Fort" and comes from the fact that foreign Danes have long lived in what is now County Donegal. There are rich herring fishing grounds off the northwest coast, and the fishing port of Killybeg in the bay boasts the largest herring catch in Ireland. County Donegal is also home to thriving hand-woven woolen textile and linen spinning industries. [Ueno Itaru] Source: Heibonsha World Encyclopedia, 2nd Edition Information |
